Detailed Itinerary
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Jetara representative and transferred to Kitulgala, which is 3 hours of drive through lush greenery and beautiful landscapes. Kitulgala is a small town and popular for its outdoor adventures, specially white-water rafting. Check into your riverside hotel and take some time to relax in the serene atmosphere. Late afternoon, take a walk along the Kelani River, one of the other film locations of the iconic film ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’. The evening can be utilized to have a fine dinner in a quiet moment along the riverside. Overnight stay in Kitulgala.
Have your breakfast and get ready for an action-packed morning of white-water rafting on the Kelani River. Taking in the sensational views of nature, rafting promises a real ride of fantastic rapids that can equally be enjoyed both by total beginners and true adrenaline fans. In this case, guides will take you through some sections with Class II and III rapids. This is going to be an unforgettable experience. Later, you may take an optional rainforest walk or can take part in a canyoning adventure, which includes rock sliding, waterfall abseiling, and swimming in natural rock pools. Late afternoon: At leisure by the river or at the hotel. Overnight stay in Kitulgala.
Breakfast in the hotel, then transfer to nearby railway station to board a scenic train ride to Nuwara Eliya, one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful hill stations. Known as “Little England”, Nuwara Eliya has the most colonial charm and cool climate. Nuwara Eliya is surrounded by lush tea plantations, misty hills, and picturesque waterfalls. The journey by train will take you through breathtaking scenery with rolling tea plantations and emerald hills at great elevation. Great photo opportunities abound. Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and check into a hotel for a quiet evening. Take a walk around Lake Gregory or proceed to watch the quaint colonial buildings of this town. Night in Nuwara Eliya.
Commence the day with an early visit to Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Go on a scenic hike to World’s End, a bold cliff offering an exhilarating view of the valleys and tea estates beyond. This 9km trek, which will take approximately 3 hours, will also pass by Baker’s Falls, a lovely waterfall hidden deep within the forest. Come back for lunch in Nuwara Eliya. Afternoon, you will visit a tea plantation and a tea factory located in the vicinity. You will be taken through some interesting processes used in the manufacture of the world-famous Ceylon tea. Later, you will also have a session of tasting the teas amidst beautiful surroundings. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
After having breakfast, you will leave Nuwara Eliya and drive to Kandy, a 2.5-hour drive through scenic mountain roads. En-route visit Ramboda Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Arrive in Kandy and check into a hotel. In the afternoon, proceed on a city tour. The highlight of the day will be a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most important Buddhist temples in the world. Here, you get to witness a typical Buddhist ceremony besides admiring the beautiful Kandyan architecture. Later in the evening, take an evening walk along the bustling streets of Kandy or attend a cultural dance performance to watch typical Sri Lankan music and dance. Overnight at Kandy.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning in Kandy. The Kandy Lake is excellent for a quiet walk, and the local markets surrounding it have some nice souvenir shops. At a suitable time for your flight, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo for your onward flight. The drive from Kandy to Colombo takes approximately 3.5 hours.
